Wow, on Altamont Press and a few other places, there are reports of Doyle's retirement from the UP as an active engineer. All I can say is WATCH OUT for the progress made on all the restored and "being restored" locomotives at Portland's Brooklyn roundhouse. If Doyle has all his spare time to devote to 4449, NKP 190 and all those others, that place will be rockin'!
Hope he won't celebrate this event with a lengthy vacation! I want to see a PA in operation! Boxcab E50
I spoke with Doyle about his pending retirement while attending a F.R.A. seminar at the Calif. Railroad Museum in Sacramento on 11 April. At that time, he had 30 days to go. I asked him if he was going to give up railroading altogether (was he going to give the throttle up to 4449?) to which he said, "No. But if someone wants to have 4449, I'll give it to them .. but they really have to take all that goes with it! Otherwise, I'll continue to sit at the throttle."
