Does BNSF have some sort of unit tank train? if so can someone give me some more info like what company owns the cars and other info. http://www.railarc.org/imagefetch.cgi?filename=bnsf-700-coloradosprings_co-[27-nov-2000]-000-800x600.jpg Rail Archives Photo by Nathan D. Holmes
I won't claim to KNOW the answer, but I'll bet it was a special move of empty tank cars to somewhere, probably because of a shipper change (new customer, plant shutdown, etc.) I've not heard of a regular tank unit run, but I could be wrong.
It's not a tank train in the SP sense of the phrase, and it's not a regular movement that I've ever seen - just a one-off deal. BNSF does push a fair number of trains through the Joint Line that are mostly tank cars - presumably chemical traffic coming out of Texas and the like, but that's just a guess. I know that BNSF has been running a unit "corn syrup" train through Texas...I've seen it a couple of times on the old Fort Worth & Denver line from DFW to Amarillo. Most of the cars were the 39' funnel flows but I think there were a few 46-footers in the mix if I remember correctly. I saw a post somewhere about it and I believe the cars are going to the Coca-Cola plant in Irving (Dallas). It is apparently only a unit train going south, as the empties "trickle" back. Not sure where it comes from or if this is even your train but hopefully it's useful info nonetheless.
