I'm curious how many of you shoot video of trains when you are out railfanning? I will be the first to admit I do. Have nearly 100 hours of stuff that I have shot over the past decade+. Most is from the early 90's. Have been looking at it a lot lately because I haven't had much time to railfan.
That's my primary media. If it's moving, it should be videotaped, so that's how I record trains and airplanes. My still efforts take a back seat, but every once in a while I get a few good ones.
Yeah, I usually shoot video, and bought a new one some time ago, but so far have not used it! Matt has tried it out on his holiday, that is about all. I keep thinking I should get trackside and try it out
I am also a Video - Fan!! Since 1997 I have about 12 hours Train-Video from Caliente, the Loop and all the way down to San Diego!
I've toyed with it, but I still prefer shooting prints. First off, it's hard to share as the digital video formats just aren't quite up to speed yet, and secondly I find the still images more interesting and useful.
Back in the late 1980's, I owned a studio quality camera. It was very nice. But I found that I preferred slides. For modeling and reference. And the expensive video equipment was just sitting. So, I sold it...... But then my interest in railfanning was slipping, so even the camera collects dust all the time. Boxcab E50
