Did Kato forget the SP?

With Kato's recent announcement of their upcoming run of SD40s, the trend continues wherein they are not producing engines with Southern Pacific paint:

    > The second and third runs of Dash-9s
    > Both runs of SD40-2s
    > The upcoming SD40s
    > The F7s (Unitrack sets)
    > The P42s (just wanted to see if you were paying attention!)

Is there a reason for this? Do Espees not sell particularly well? Is it just a coincidence?

I can't believe that an Algoma Central model would outsell an SP model.

    Any ideas?

Good point! [IMG] Many of these models sure could use a coat of scarlet & grey...although it should be pointed-out that SP never owned a single SD40-2 (as hard to believe as that is  ). But that didn't stop Athearn in HO scale! ;) .

Kinda miffs me to see so many new releases with no offerings of one of the LARGEST railroads ever to run the rails in this country. Thank you Atlas for including the SP on the SD-50 release!

Though I'd like to see more SP releases, my wallet sure is enjoying the break!

Looks like Intermountain is going to do more locomotives in SP than my wallet can handle in the next couple years. (Sure hope they release them at different times!) But I did wonder that about Kato. I was hoping they would do a 70M in N-scale, But now I hope they wait awhile!

While I was at Kato we noticed a drop-off in sales of SP..... at one time it was almost equal to UP or ATSF in popularity.... but about the time the real railroad started going in the dumper (locos held together with dirt and rust, traffic flow problems in Houston) even C&NW outsold SP......
There may be a revival in interest in SP, but these things are funny.... we thought that with the almost irrational sales of ATSF warbonnet Fs that never-before done blue and yellow freighters would be popular....but apparently it was only the Lionel effect as they took two years to sell out a modest production run.....
Of course, times change, and there are more people in N Scale now, hungry for product, so the new FTs might both do well.... it will be interesting to watch....
