    .

You might consider alternate, drop-in scenes instead of covering of one with another (if I understood you correctly.) You might even come up with more than two alternate scenes.

Not sure I understood your plans for controlling trains on the layout, but... Providing for separate DC blocks, any of which can controlled by either (any) throttle, is a typical approach for DC layouts. And you could include the capability to use a DCC system in lieu of a DC throttle, in the future. But it would be most flexible to provide the ability to control any/all of the blocks from any throttle/DCC system you choose.

    @BigJake Thanks, I'll reword it.

    Scenery

Along the 'Western Wall' I have the 'industrial area' in which I plan plan to put silos, warehouses and factories. These structures will be held in place with 'alinement pegs' so they can easily be removed / replaced.
This will allow me to drop into place towns, mountains, more 'monuments' or ? I could even swap the factories out for a different one. These items will be built on 'fitted' sheets of foam so I can swap them out.

The layout is not really big enough for 2 person operation. It is only 40' of track with
    • One interchange
    • One Mysteium Mine, (if you run point to point). Otherwise it is round Round.
Not a lot to do for the main line operator.
Point to Point operations or Roundy Round
From yard to industrial area is where the action is.

Maybe I'll do up an operational 'map'.
    Hope this mades sence.

Thanks; that does make more sense. Almost like a modular layout, except the "module" boundaries are not all uniformly sized, etc.

Mainline running is not that interesting, except the local freight has to venture out on the mainline to get to some of the industries. But it's your railroad, so you could de-prioritize the mainline job, such that it has to stop and wait while a local freight has access. Not entirely prototypical, but that can be a way to make things more balanced, interest-wise.

I have a similar operating scheme in mind for my layout-to-be (Spaghetti & Western): a folded dogbone with a figure 8 loop, with an at-grade crossing, woven together on a 36x80" HCD. Both routes can be run in parallel (with some crossing interference between them) or in series, if desired. Both routes in series total about 48 ft, in N scale Unitrack, not including yard or industrial trackage.

My thoughts are, operating alone, using a mainline train that "orbits" on the folded dogbone unattended, creating a time/space obstacle for the local freight working the yard and industries on the figure 8.

I haven't really considered two-person operation for my layout, but I suppose the mainline operator could also dis/assemble the mainline train in the small, shared yard, between running on the main (dogbone), while the local operator does his thing on the figure 8. I don't have any passenger equipment except for a couple of RDC's. I'm still debating whether I want a small passenger station.

Operational Vid - A 90 second vid showing 1 aspect of operations on the GandG RR.
I have been working with a free version of Microsoft 'ClipChamp' which helps me eliminate, (remove), a lot of shaky and anorying irrelevant content.
