Has anyone announced a PnP decoder for the Atlas N scale MP15's? Better yet, if anyone has a factory equipped model, can you tell me what is in there?

    Harold:

It's a Lenz decoder that was designed for Atlas for the MP-15.

Check with the Atlas parts department to see when they'll be available.

I guess if I can't wait, I'll just pick one to hardwire or modify an existing PnP unit.

    Thanks!

A Lenz min-gold deocder will fit in that loco with little frame modification.

I got the following reply to my message from Jim Miller at Atlas

"Atlas had a decoder designed especially to fit the new N scale MP15DC locomotive. It is Atlas item #522299; the price of this decoder has not yet been set. We expect to receive a limited number of decoders from our factory sometime before the end of January."

I will wait for the announcement, I guess :D

Thanks, Okane. I am sure they'd have a part available (eventually). I guess it just boils down to the cost :D

Lenz probably made the decoder for Atlas. The decoder will probably be in the mid to high $20 range USD.

There is still no further news on the factory decoder in the Atlas MP-15.

O.K. I have a few units that could use a PnP solution :D

So does this mean that the decoder I use for GP38, U25, et al, should fit the MP15?

It seems that it's specially made for the MP-15.

I see... I clicked on the lower one and was led to a link / picture of the B40 decoder.

No picture of the N MP15 decoder :(

I'm sure Atlas will have these decoders available in time. Just test run it on an analog layout to see how it runs.

The only negative aspect in my mind with Lenz decoders is that (to my knowledge) do not have transponding. I am interested in computer assisted control of the layout in the future and transponding would be a useful tool.......unless there is a better way??

    Matt:

I use Lenz decoders for the bulk of my decoder installations that have to be hardwired and find them to be superior to the same Digitrax decoders.
