Dcc ignorant test. I have a pair of ho atlas alco's older rs11/c424 kato chassis. I would like to make these dcc sound unit's. Not sure which sound decoders i'll use yet but they will get sound. Never done this before in Ho so don't want to fry anything is there anything I need to be aware of. Thanks all Help is appreciated.
A live chassis wires slightly differnent. Depending if the live pickup is left or right track (few models) you can connect the black (left hand track) or red wire directly to the chassis. Also if one of the motor inputs is live you will have to insolate it from the motor case/ chassis so that both motor inputs are issolated. Live chassis also allows you to drop the blue wire.
The technically correct process so that your decoder doesn't fry is to isolate the motor's brushes from direct pickup via the chassis/frame or some other path direct from the rails. The drive current to the motor must come solely via the decoder's motor outputs. Nothing else....or you'll let the magic smoke out of that nice new decoder.
