Hi All, Just wanted to share this photo of the SD-9 that David F did for me. Very excited about how well this came out and can't wait for our 6-wheel chassis to show up so I can start hauling stuff around here. What is amazing is his ability to do what they used to do in HO by blending shells together to make a new body. Dave is doing this in Z Scale...amazing. Thanks again for the great job! Cheers Joe MTL
I have one of his creations, and I tell you, pictures cannot do justice. It simply doesnt show all the details he adds to the model. Here is my GP40.
The things you can do with plastic. And talent. Lots of it ! Sweet. But you'd better keep that off the bench where the Sisters can see it. Especially with that tank car in the background.
Wow! I love those old SD9s. It even has the rain guard behind the roof. Is the 24 inch roof fan available in Z? I mean can you lift it in a casting? Thanks.
Oh yeah I just remembered, with Joe we need to study the background items... Is that a SP fuel tender?
Dave's Masterpiece Indeed what a beauty. Yeah if Dave only knew how to resin cast. There is such a irony in casting. Most of the guys who know how to do it won't, if a request is made for a purchase of a shell. simp;e fact is they don't need the money, they are already well off or comfortable. when I first got into Z I was amazed out of this world by Yuji K's work. I begged him to cast me a shell of the SD45. He refused. I told him I would pay any price he wanted, but he still refused. Thank god for AZL. Now I know sooner or later if you kitbash or scratchbuild a model it will come out injection molded or in brass.
Yeah Joe, whats the scope with the N Scale Espee Fuel Tender in the background? I know I want one!!!!
Jepp he is a Master. I've the luck to own 4 modified GP35 and several modified Passenger Cars (Yampa Valley and Royal Gorge)a Flatcar, Boxcar and Caboose from David. He's incredible work makes my Collection even more special. Thank you David! BTW the SD9 is stunning.
That is awesome! Good job Dave. Joe, with all of this custom and unique locos and rolling stock, when are we going to see the layout? The pressure is on now. You need a showcase layout for these! Rob
Rob, Dave has the same disease I have. We rather work on our running stock then on our layout. We are kind of the opposite of Jim Oconnor.
Harold, Dave and I have talked about casting...I'm one of those guys who knows how to do it, have the equipment and am willing to do a few castings...I know, I know...rare, but for you guys...nothing is too much! Maybe you can show me how to be comfortable doing this ) Cheers Joe MTL
as soon as i can i'll make a simple (un-detailed) SD9 shell for casting. ("as soon as i can" most likely means several months). as i indicated elsewhere, i have a lot on my (personal) plate at the moment. joe or someone will have to step and make the casting. i just don't have the expertise to do it. all this stuff about vacuum pots and such! plastic and glue: that's what i know how to work with. i just love those SD9s and SD45s. so many locos, so little ... umph. he he he dave f.
