Dave- Responding to a Private Message is not at all difficult. There are two options: At the lower right corner, under any message you receive, find a button which shows "Reply to Private Message". Click it. Type whatever is necessary, and when done, go down to the same bottom area and click "Submit Message." Or: Go down directly below the PM, and find a box which is titled "Quick Reply". Type, and then under lower right corner, click "Submit Message."
