Look Model is having a sale on a number of their custom made passenger cars ... models here: => http://www.lookmodel.jp/specialsale_01/special_sale.html Disclaimer: I have no connection to lookmodel ... but I do own one or two of their models
Since you own a couple of their models, what is your opinion of them as far as quality, paint, correctness, etc? How do they compare to Overland Models? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
the quality of these is excellent. They make the models using the railcar encyclopaedia that was released a while back and all are cut from brass using a c&c router from the original diagrams. I am no expert on complete accuracy, I got the two GE test cars ... and the lights work and the details are amazing. I do not own any overland products ... but those that I have seen ... these are just as nice. Lookmodel tends to make stuff that is not run of the mill ... i.e. the BNSF excursion/business cars, etc ... looking at them one would never guess that they were custom made ... other than the fact that the cars they make can be peculiar ones (like those below) ... I have seen the Surfliner cars and they look fantastic too. apparently MRL's business car fleet is on the list to be produced soon (including the Silver Cloud observation car (complete with chrome)) I own these: photos of their surfliner cars: http://www.lookmodel.jp/b-surf.html Amtrak California Hi-levels: http://www.lookmodel.jp/b-cdtx.html
Well I've watched them for some time on Ebay, but hesitated due to the price and lack of experience with these items, but after reading here today and the price reduction I placed an order for one of the Amtrak Coaches. I have three P42's and am in need of some cars to pull behind them. If I like the one I'll place an order for some more Thanks for your opinion/review
I have a bunch of his models...all are very nice...especially those with lighting features. The only problem I have is with the body mounts on some curves. Steve E.
I've got three Look Model cars, they are excellent. Waiting for him to do the Santa Fe Beep.
Thanks for your all of your inputs; with all of it being positive I guess I will have to pick up another Amtrak coach. And I hope this sale last thru May so I can pick up a Sleep as well:tb-cool: Well my Amtrak coach just arrived and I am quite pleased with the workmanship they put into this car. The shipping was quite quick also considering they emailed stating that five days after order they would need to produce my car. It arrived 8 days after my order. Thanks for the tips/feedback excellent. Later I will post pictures of this beautiful model.
Do they track well enough to really run in the push mode of a push pull operation? (reliably on average track?) ((at speed?))
Did you get a chance to take some pictures? I would love to have a couple of the cars - a dorm lounge and one of the single door baggage cars for sure. Are they "chrome" plated or painted? I'm not a fan of the too-shiny chrome look. I noticed one car on their website that said "buffer car" on the link. I thought that was a typo, somehow, for baggage, but it really says "buffer" on the baggage car body. <http://lookmodeljapan.ocnk.net/product/26> Odd. If you take a look at the Yemassee pictures located bottom right at <http://nscale160.com/Gallery/Album.php> you will see the train I'd like to model. I think it can be done with off the shelf products if I dig into my wallet for a couple of LookModels products. Think I can have any road number I like? Terry
Buffer cars are generally used between low and bi-level equipment when the diaphram striker plates do not align with each other and neither car has a rubber tube diaphram. They are used as-needed for deadheading equipment around the Amtrak system
I just wish he would do the UP Business baggage car with the big flag on the side, then I would be set for doing a business train.... those z scalers, thanks to Joe, have a wonderful model. Now if we could prod Kato along to do a Metra F40PH, my bank account would be dry
"I noticed one car on their website that said "buffer car" on the link. What you have hear is one of a very small number of baggage and baggage - dorm cars that were rebuilt to haul wheel sets from various shop locations for work. The 10400 doesn't have such lettering but 10404 does have the stencile "Buffer car" in old paint. http://rrpicturearchives.net/rspicture.aspx?id=59972 http://rrpicturearchives.net/rspicture.aspx?id=233983
