I was writing to see if there are Curved Turnouts in real life?
I know you can get them in HO scale.

They are out there. But they are pretty rare. They would be only used if thetre was no othey way to get the tracks in a certin place. Real railroads very rarely used them , they would also tend to be very very large radius....Mike

Here in Europe where space is often at a premium curved turnouts are very common. I walked past a rail junction today with 6 turnouts and 5 of them were curved.

Good grief John! That's a high percentage of curved / straight turnouts

I guess it's a lot easier for a 'real' train to pass through a curved switch than model trains with unrealistic thicknesses and depths of wheel flanges, wouldn't you think? :D

    I guess so Bill [IMG]
I didn't have my camera with me today but I have found some photos of the "Curvey Junction" taken by local photographer Warren Desmond.

The length of the wing rails and some of the guard rails speaks volumes! :D

I love the photo of the hoppers going thru the s curve created by three curved switches! Just what conventional model railroad wisdom says to never do! It would be a blast to build something like this and I have no doubt it could be laid to work perfectly. So who's going to do it?
