Juice train northbound in Selma this morning. Christmas decoration on the right above; had not noticed before. There are some old paint schemes in the juice train, too.
Hi-Ad trucks are the standard on modern GE power. They're found on all DC engines and UP (and SP and CNW), BNSF and CEFX AC engines. CP, CSX (except on some AC6000CWs), KCS, FXE and FSRR use steerable trucks.
Flash, great pictures. I hope to model the juice train one of this days. MK4D suppose to make a reefer in z, but I am still waiting. Well, it gives me more time to build up the slush fund.
Here are those "rock" cars that I was speaking of. I have never seen any like it before; they may be covered hoppers. In any case, you can see they are very old and have seaboard markings on them. I presume this is a CSX non-revenue train. [edit] Here's a better picture of this type car. It is an open hopper. Still, looks severely modified, to me.
CSX container train passes the diamonds northbound at speed. Does this picture look blurred? Actually, that was a joke. The thing to notice is that the overhead signals are turned 90 degrees to the track. The signals on the pole now guard the diamonds in all directions and the "track warrant" sign has been removed. CSX completed this work on Friday. Today I saw some CSX personnel checking it out in operation as NS and CSX passed the station. This container train was about two minutes after a NS train had crossed. In fact, the NS train blocked the diamonds by about four feet and then pulled forward to clear. Here's a better view of the signals. NS in Pine Level yard on Saturday morning (IIRC). Two six axles; they were pulling a short 15 car manifest
They did take the old one down. Here is the one still standing. It faces the opposite direction. View with CSX passing by. Both towers are visible on the left side of the track.
CSX at a Standstill in Selma, NC I have spent the last three days hanging around the Selma train station. There are no CSX trains and one or two NS trains a day. The only regular service is four Amtraks a day. As I understand, the dual track CSX main line is under repair. Right now, the section from Micro to Smithfield is effectively closed. It really seems strange to be here and not hear any trains as you usually hear them day and night, 24 hours a day on the CSX main. I do have pictures of the repair equipment, but on dial up internet right now. Will post later when the phone lines are open. Anyone know when CSX movement will start again?
The CSX still seems closed during the day. I think I heard some trains running last night. Any more info? In the mean time, here is a covered hopper at the feed plant. That air line looks okay to me.
Four big six axle engines on a coal drag towards Goldsboro, NC. These engines and the train were parked overnight in the Pine Level Yard. NS8423 obviously has the wrong trucks on it. I don't know the difference in these two engines, but there must be some. I think they are labeled as 9-40CW. Dirty gondola. Most of the cars were very clean.
8423 looks like a C40-8W, thus ex-Conrail, as NS was still ordering standard noses when Dash 8s were new.
Selma 17 April 2010 The following are the photos of interest that I took in Selma, NC, 17 April 2010. I used to go there and see a train every 45-60 minutes on the CSX main line, but now I am lucky to be around when one goes through. They are much less frequent these days. CSX coil car Illinois Central lives! Sway back gondola.
