I have a few pictures of these as well.... the GP30M ("M" being for "modified" were derated & somewhat rebuilt GP30's... their original HP rating was dropped from 2250 to 2000. Someone correct me if I am wrong) From what I have learned, they started in the 42xx class, hence I present to you the class unit: Harold
Thanks for the e-mails, but you guys should not be so shy and post your comments here! Here's another unit: The "blight" on the "2" in the road number is actually a cab vent, as you will see in the close up picture. Harold
Another view of the same loco, showing the correct horns, headlight arrangement, as well as the plated over classification lights and other details. Harold
The same engine, different angle (the "reddish tint" is where I tried to shoot too far on the roll of film ) Harold
have any been re-re-built into road slugs?? I'll bet they are all scrapped oither than the traucks, and a few other salvageable majors.
As far as I know, all of the GP30's/GP30M's are long gone.... I think CSX did provide PNC with some GP30's for the road slug project years ago... I guess the spirit of the GP30 will have to live on in the road slug on CSX Harold
Sad to see them Chessie units go. The last active GP30s I ever saw were 2 pulling a Autorack. 1 was in CSX Bighht Future the other in Chessie. Come to think of it that was also the last Chessie unit I have seen to date. Those remaining GP40 must be evading me but Ill find them one day . I see RMDT GP30s all the time though. Kinda a sad sight. but at least there active but unfortunately not active like a BNSF GP39M [ 03 May 2001: Message edited by: Chessie_SD50_8563 ]
