I assume Micro-Trains are the preferred choice?

Can someone post photos of the Micro-Trains versus Marklin couplers?

Are there others? I'm watching an eBay auction and I think one has the wrong couplers on it.

MT and Marklin are the only 2 I'm aware of, unless someone in Z makes a Unimate-style coupler.
    MT is usually preferred.

Photos of both types of couplers (and loads of information) are here:

Do it Yourself in Z-scale: Coping with Couplers

You can also upgrade Micro-Trains cars from Marklin couplers to M-Ts quite easily.

AZL also makes couplers that are compatible with MTL MagneMatics but don't have the spring-loaded uncoupling action.

There was talk at one time of making these available with the trucks with metal wheelsets. Any update on that?

    Charlie--
Welcome aboard to Z! -- Z Finally got to the wild reaches Downeast. Micro trains used to make the SAME car with both Marklin and Microtrain couplers. They discontinued this practice about a year ago and all current microtrains Z cars have Microtrain couplers. These couplers are more realistic and preferred in the Z hobby. You probably will find lotz of the "older" Microtrain cars with the Crab-Woopz- Sorry-- Lobster Claw on ebay.
Not to worry too much as the couplers can be replaced with it's counterpart. Sometimes the hard to find, GOTTA have car has the wrong couplers. Some of the Zers have a single car with Microtraincoupler on one end and a Marklin on the other.
It's best to go with the micro train couplers as Most manufactures are using it as a standard. Some of the Brass AZL and other AZL rolling stock has a AZL coupler that is compatable with Microtrains.
Lotz of Z Box cars out there. Micro trains are coming out in many styles and sizes.
FULL THROTTLE, Penzee, Father Nature, TNT, all use MT couplers

If modeling european- Marklin is the ONLY way to go- Reading your blog it looks you are going American- Frisco etc.
Saw you got on Z Central station- Z_scale is good also, as you progress there are other interesting Z sites. ZTRACK Magazine is the best of Z pubs.
Catch you on the flip flop
    Ayuh!
