I have not treid this for fear of messing up either a locomotive sound project or the sound templates, but is it possible to copy an individual sound from a project, paste it into the sound library template, and install it into another locomotive?

I do not want to remove it from the source file, only copy it and reuse it in another project.

Is there a reason you do not download the file from ESU's site

I don't think you understand the question.

I have the sound project that contains the individual sound file...for the locomotive it was meant for. I need automatic door sounds for a project that doesn't have it that is supposed to have it.

Yes, sorry I didn't catch you were looking for an individual sound and not a whole sound file.

Since you aren't getting anymore help here maybe try Loksound@groups.io. I think I've seen that come up on there before but don't recall the answer.

Yes you can do that exactly. The arrows on the interface will be disabled until you drill down into the folders if the templates. I've done so when copying a CN chime from for project to another.

If you need screenshots, let me know, later when I'm off work I can take some to show the process.

Thanks. I appreciate the reply. Knowing it can be done is half the battle.

Oh, I learned quite a bit lately on editing sound projects after I kept getting the same error over and over again, I stumbled on this website...

    https://www.beemanscustoms.com/how-to/the-basics

This guy made a super and up to date guide to the lokprogammer interface. Seriously, read it, it helped me immensely.

To practice, I learned how to add a Tardis sound to friend's loco :ROFLMAO:. I was rushed else I'd also have tried to get the headlights to blink too :D

I forgot that I had a link to the following video....

.... it doesn't talk about moving a sound file to the template but does explain how to get it from there and to the decoder. If is older for their V4 decoders but bet it is the same for the newer V5 decoders.

Stephane thanks for that link. I'll check it out.

The only gotcha for moving a sound slot to the template library is in that silly arrow staying greyed out. You have to expand the templates until you reach the full container (eg the list of individual chimes), then that silly arrow finally allows you to copy it to the library.

It doesn't help that the lokprogammer help file discusses a user interface that is entirely redesigned and now renders that help document meaningless. But there are people like at that link above that decoded it for us :D
