I like the last layout the best. it is a good room for it.

However, have I missed something? The reach to the four corners from inside the layout looks a little long to me.

    Thanks Ron,
I am using the trackplan called 'Option 4'. It is about the 5th post down on page two. Is that the one you were referring to? Reach is a little far in the corners, no more than 30" though. I am 6'1" and I wouldn't want to have to reach any farther. It should be alright to scenic as it is only a small portion of the layout.
If I ever do a much larger layout, I think I will stick to shelves that are a maximum 24" deep, with a maximum reach of no more than 30". Looking back at my first plans for this room, I realize that I wouldn't have had much fun trying to reach back almost 4' to the corners.

    Cheers!

I like that one a lot. With the scenery there should be no reach issues. It's looking good. Enjoy building it.
    See ya

    A few photos...

To prove I haven't given up.

Life has been busy lately, and I haven't had an over abundance of time to work on my layout. I have been tinkering with a scratchbuilt bridge however, and finished another piece tonight. I am fairly happy with it all in all. It did take quite a while to get the colour right. Even so, I am not sure if it is really the 'right' colour.

The hydrocal I am using for the piers and bridge is a nice product to work with for carving detail. Especially after a few days of curing, it is very good to get a lot of detail in.

    As always, comments/criticism are appreciated!!

    Cheers,

    Trees!

Well, it certainly has been a while since I have given an update. There hasn't been a lot done on the layout since the spring weather rolled in. Now that the days are getting shorter and cooler, the train bug has bitten again. No new photos of the layout just yet, as it is still just plaster cloth. Hopefully in a week or two that will all be painted. This weekend I got to playing around with making some trees. These ones are made out of pieces of spirea shrubs, glued together, painted, and topped off with some ground foam for foliage. The shape doesn't lend them all that well to being good standalone trees, but in clumps with some other colours of deciduous, and an odd coniferous tree mixed in, I think they will do just fine. Let me know what you think. If I make some more, I may do a step-by-step series of photos just for fun.

    Cheers,

(P.S. Ignore the fuzzy spots on the photos. For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to make my wife's "all-too-fancy" camera work right.)
