Got out in the garage this morning and built the framework for the bencwork. I still have to put legs on it and deck it, but I've got this much done at least.

It's a bit heavy duty I know (perimeter 2x6 with 2x4 joists), but since I'm only gonna have legs on each end I wanted plenty of strength to support whatever weight the layout has.

The track plan is still in question, but the benchwork is now set in stone.

Anyway, here's the start to the BNSF....well, it just occurred to me that I don't have a name for it yet. Here's the start to my layout.

It's going in the front living room which is now serving as a computer room. The benchwork is actually two 10' sections. I just had them together for the sake of the picture and so I could get an idea for the actual size of the layout. Getting it in the house won't be a problem....even after I get legs and backdrop on it. [IMG]

Nice looking benchwork. Your mitered joints look better than mine end up appearing. Guess I need to buy a miter saw....

Thanks. The saw I used was actually a borrowed Delta 10" compound miter saw. It worked much better (and faster) than the skilsaw (circular saw) I used the last time I built benchwork. After using this one I'm gonna go buy one of my own. Very handy to have around.

Excellent. After having to climb up onto my benchtop last weekend to paint something, I was very happy I had overbuilt it...

Thanks for the compliments fellas. I'm ready to put the deck and backdrop on it now so I can start laying some track.

Speaking of...I think I have finally arrived at a track plan I like (discussion in Layout Design forum). Take a look...

    Hoss,
A reply to your new design is in the layout design forum. The benchwork looks great. My experience is that finishing the benchwork is a great movtivator.
