Picked up a great Atlas one at the Amherst show but was wondering how did CR run these, long or short hood forward?
I dont think it really matters, but I had heard that all the RS generally ran with the long hood forward.. But, they ran them both ways depending on how they were when they needed to use them...
Which ever end has the 'F' on the sil is typically the foward hood, in this case the long hood. The exception being units with dual control stands which you would need to verify. Jason
Looked through this page - only short hood "F" was ex-NH :http://crcyc.railfan.net/locos/alco/rs11/rs11.html will it help you ? Bob C.
Not sure about NYC,but all ex PRR woulda been LHF,also ex-LV,which would have also been Ex-PRR,they leased them from Pennsy.
Thanks for the replies guys. I'll have to wait until I get home to check the "F" (if there is one - it's an Atlas Classic, decoder ready).
If the photo on the Atlas website is accurate, then yes, the "F" is on the long hood. http://www.atlasrr.com/Images/NLocomotives/nrs11/0507/42643_TQ.jpg
I checked thru all my PRR books; In the Lead LHF, in a lashup LHF, LHF SHF. Same arrangement for Geeps. I didnt know RS11's survived into CR. These are one of my favorites.
