Many congratulations must go to “MDC Roundhouse” for their excellent service department. I had taken delivery of an RTR Shay but it failed to run properly. Three sets of gears were in fact loose on the shafts and the helical gears on the wheel shafts and base plate were also loose. I informed MDC about it and within 4 days, I had new 4 wheels sets plus the 2 base plates at my house, with no charge to me what so ever. After fitting it all together, the shay now runs beautifully. Now that’s what I call customer service. Many thanks MDC Roundhouse. Paul
Good to hear Paul! I'm going to need to get in touch with MDC to buy a separate 3 truck Shay tender body, frame, and a extra set of wheels. I'm kitbashing a 3 truck Shay into a 4 truck! To make one of the 4 Western Maryland Shays. Being the most well known Shay for the Western Maryland was in fact the last and largest Shay built, the WM #6, but that was a 162 ton Shay, (Simular to the Pacific Coast Shays) But the MDC is waaaaay to small to make it the WM #6. So.... I'm going to kitbash a MDC3 truck Shay into a 4 truck, and make it the WM #5! I'm always up to something different and new!
Paul, Once I get it completed, I'll see if I can get some good pictures of it once I'm done! But, its going to take some time being I have to do alot of cutting on the original tender on the rear as well as the new tender on its front and then connect the sections of the metal frame and body together and then fit the 4th set of trucks and all the dirve shaft work.... But will be powered as well! So, I'll have a MDC 4 truck Shay, all 4 trucks powered!
