The MTL ad in the July 2002 issue of MR (page 119) has an artist's rendition of NYC 1600 in its delivery paint scheme -- black body with white stripes on the bottom and center of the nose and a red oval NYC herald below the headlight. This appears to be taken from the EMD "trading card" that the factory art department made up as hand-outs back then. This matches the proto photo shown here: http://home.att.net/~barrwp/nyc1600.htm ====== eNjoy
Don, that's a rare one. I don't know if any units actually wore that paint scheme, and if they did, for how long? Definitely a predecessor of the famous lightning stripes.
Fitz At least two NYC FT A's wore this scheme See the NYC 1600 photo link (1950) in my original post above. Its mate FT B NYC 2400 also wore black -- see the photo here (1946) ===== http://gelwood.railfan.net/other/nyc/nyc1600g.jpg ===== NYC 1601 wore black -- see this 1949 photo ===== http://gelwood.railfan.net/other/nyc/nyc1601s.jpg ===== Note however that its mate FT B NYC 2401 appears to be in dark gray with a light gray band in the above photo ===== eN(YC)joy
