Modeling N scale, but I'm gonna be building a z scale in my future coffee table. Any shots of coffee table layouts here? Kinda got a track plan working in my head already......(that's the best part of being in the hobby for so long, I look at anything and I see a track plan).... Not knowing much about Z scale, is there much in the way of Canadian road names out there? Mike.
Hi, welcome to the sleeping N scale! I don't think you'll find a better coffe table layout than Heine Pedersen's layout! http://www.heinepedersen.com/miniclub/
Good stuff. I, too, plan on a Z Scale coffee table layout in the future. We have a surplus and salvage store near here that used to have all kinds of good coffee tables that would work well. Of course, after I decided to do this, they haven't had anything appropriate in stock when I have checked. I'm still looking though and it would be a great winter-time project (for people of any scale). Charlie
You can get some ideas with the NOCH ready mades: NOCH: z.scale.hobo LAYOUTS NOCH: Modellbahn/Modelleisenbahn - Modellbahnzubehr For a starting point collection of available Canadian names, take a look at this list: woo woo woo - Roadname Search
I can't see it well but looks real neat. Too small for me. I guess O or S scale would be considered a Dinning Table layout:tb-biggrin:
Hey Mike you might wanna check out the MR February 2009 issue they had a special in there on how to build an efficient coffee table layout in N scale that might help you also. Very nice article and instructions on the build.
Heine Pedersen's layout is nice looking, but Karin's is extraordinarily nice. Lots of Circus stuff all scratch built and not much to use as a reference. Boats that move in the water - all types of moving circus mini dioramas all built as one unit. Dizzyland even had a real nice train running around and all in a coffee table layout. Come on Karin - post some photos to show how good it was. ...don
As far as Canadian MT makes a CN gp9 and CP SD 40 and CP GP 35 I beleive. Also I think they Made an old F-7 CP A and B unit. AZL makes CN SD 70.
Charlie, Check Ikea's catalog. Fairly simple designs tho, not like good woodworking of East Coast or the link. Here are two of four Z scale layouts in hotel bar Göppingen, Germany; home of Märklin. The other two are square framed with circular track. Each depicts the four seasons. Now broadcasting with 1W ERP until the sun goes down.
you will find a very well layed-out coffee table-type display if you go to that auction site and search for "Franklin mint Marklin" It fits on a coffee table and they made two versions, winter and summer, so you can keep your repeat living room visitors amazed when they see a snowfall one and then a few months later a green one. It has the most important feature for coffee table (continuous running) displays, no frogs to make your locos hop off the track!
