Dunno if anyone was interested in the CM&PS RY paper I uploaded yesterday. But I've some from the CM&St.P RY that I am thinking of posting. There's stuff that would interest folks from both Lines East, and Lines West. Anyone interested? George? Andy? Kurt? BTW- Where's Cory lately? Boxcab E50
Well, hope there's some interest! Here goes.... First up, is Amberg, Wisconsin. Date is May 17, 1892. This station was later renamed "Pike." Boxcab E50
Black River, Washington. Once located way out in the woods, so-called "civilization" has crept in. This is now within the city limits of Tukwila. This was copied at the Oregon-Washington Railroad & Navigation Company (UP parent company) Tower. No. It was not yet UP! That didn't happen until 1/1/36. At one time, the Milw also had it's own tower a few hundred yards further south! Most people aren't even aware of this fact! Engine 10237 is a set of Boxcab electrics. October 3, 1927: Boxcab E50
Cedar Falls, Washington. Note the date. Which would confuse many, as the histories of this company are so poorly researched, poorly written, and far too often errantly repeated. The date on this is January 4, 1928. Which falls after when most think the company had changed names. It had, starting on January 1, 1928. To the Chicago, Milwaukee, St.Paul & Pacific Railroad Company. But they did NOT begin operating under that name immediately. They continued to run the railroad as the CM&St.P RY until January 13, 1928. When the CMSt.P&P RR OFFICIALLY started operations. Boxcab E50
Channing, Michigan. June 2, 1902. Note the handwriting. This is an old time trick many operators used, so their lines didn't slope down at the end. They'd place a straightedge on the train order pad. And keep crisp, exact rows. Boxcab E50
Cle Elum, Washington. Here's another point of confusion. The station name was Cle Elum. But it was not in Cle Elum. The actual town of Cle Elum was on the north bank of the Yakima River. The railroad there, was the Northern Pacific Railway. There was a second, and twin, incorporated town on the south bank. South Cle Elum! With it's own mayor, post office, etc. And the Milw depot was only a short disatnce from city hall of South Cle Elum. A clearance card addressed to Train 16, The Olympian. May 23, 1927: Boxcab E50
Granville, Illinois. This was actually a New York Central train order office. The Milwaukee had a branch from Davis Junction to Oglesby, Illinois. (Later cut back to Ladd.) With trackage rights over the NYCRR, between Ladd, and Granville, to reach their track segment Granville to Oglesby. January 18, 1915: Boxcab E50
Junction City, Wisconsin. Actually a Minneapolis, St.Paul & Sault Ste Marie (Soo Line) Railroad train order office. August 27, 1912: Boxcab E50
La Crescent, Minnesota. Once a major junction point on their system. Lines ran in all four compass directions from this little office. Located on the west bank of the Mississippi River. July 4, 1907: Boxcab E50
