don't know if this is the right place to post but was in Western Forest Products office other day and saw a notice of closure of the Nimpkish Valley logging railway:

    http://www.northislandgazette.com/n...roducts-announces-closure-of-englewood-train/

The article says "Vancouver Islands last logging railway" but wikipedia says "It was the last operating logging railroad in North America." which is what I thought.

This isn't related to the previous, except it's on Vancouver Island. 42.7M estimate to upgrade the old Esquimalt and Nanaimo between Victoria and Nanaimo (Nanaimo to Courtenay would be additional). One positive to this proposal is the inclusion of commuter service from Langford to Victoria. Traffic jams in and out of Victoria at rush hour are bad...

Sorry to hear that news. I vaguely recall hearing about the fatalities a long time ago, and suspect that had something to do with the closure.

The article reads as if this happened at a log loading site. That it was not a "train", but a string of cars being cable pulled through loading and the cable broke. The cut of cars then rolled away.

Whatever happened, it was tragic, very sad. :( :( :(

Very interesting. This is worthy of it's own topic. :)

I have more on this so will start a new thread. What forum would it fit in?

This is about currently active railroad news, so within the "Ready Track". It probably does not need to go under a subcategory.

OK, I'll put it in Ready Track, don't really want to concede it as a fallen flag... ;-)

Neither do I. As far as I am concerned, it really has not ended. Track is still active on their southern end. Nothing is legally abandoned. Out of service is not abandoned.
