Being a Nikon man, I never owned an AE-1, but it was an excellent and bulletproof design. It was so successful that I think Canon sold in excess of a million units globally. We've kept one 35mm camera body, my wife's Nkion. I forget the model, but it was likely one of the last 35mm bodies that Nikon produced. A few years ago the girl next door asked to borrow it for a school project involving film use. She'd never used a film camera and thought it was all pretty neat. She returned the camera in perfect order. I didn't go digital until late 2011.
