Seeing as I cannot start building my new Badger Creek until next year, I thought I would give myself an early Christmas present by scratchbuilding a new sawmill to replace the other one I damaged whilst removing it from the baseboard. Could have repaired it but I thought, build another, so here it is. Not quite finished yet, got to make the ramp up from the water yet.

Have a Happy New Year all.

WOW! That is VERY impressive! Wish I had the patience for that sort of structure. Just have to be in the mood for it I guess. Where did you het the machinery parts?

Paul, do your neighbors complain about the whine of that saw when you are running? Dad took me to visit a saw mill that was steam operated. The saw band was nearly a foot wide and had teeth as big as the bowl of a table spoon. The log they were running through at the time was over six feet in diameter and about fourty feet long. The noise was ear splitting! I admire your craftsmanship Paul, it will be a fine model! :D

    Paul,
You never seem to stop the amazment! Nice work.... :D Thats slightly bigger then the last one isn't it? If not it sure looks as if it is! I've been thinking of doing a coal bunker for steam servicing from scratch materials! :D Its going to be some time till I get that started its still in the thinking process of how I want it to look and how i'm going to begin the structure!

I scratchbuilt most of the machinery, but did buy from Walthers a small set of live rolls.

    John,
It is slightly taller but not as long as the other. but by the time I fit in the woodyard from the other structure I guess it will be as long if not longer.

    Paul,
I should have been more specific! It looks more complex and then with all the additions to it with the yard and all it should be slightly bigger in base circumference. Inother words take up more space.... :D ....

On the lumber you used, is that wood from hobby center or wood that you had riped on a table saw???? Like, you made the frame work from a 2 by 4 or was it store bought scale lumber?

On your work, you inspire me so much to make a few of my own structures such as the coal bunker I need. That will service 4 to 5 maybe even 6 steamers at a time. The crazy part is I believe you can buy coal bunkers to service 3 locos at once and then buy another and kit bash the 2 to make one to service 6 at a time... But the detailing the ones already pre-fab are slightly harder to detail and all being that its pre fab'ed to be the way the kit should be and all. When I can scratch build one to my specs and do the detailing and design the parts specifically for the details and all. Not to have to change the plans and so on... And more then anything. I can design it to be the specs I want.... And make it look as I want it too! From proto-type pictures of the real thing that i'm modeling it after.... And besides all that.... The fun of doing one from raw materails and all from my own hands is something to be proud of instead of putting a couple of kits together and kit bashing them.... :D Thats all the fun, making one from your own design!!!! Its the challenge of it.... And I love a challenge if I know it can be done!

Merry Christmas Paul.... And Happy New Year! From my trains and family to your trains and family....... :D

Paul, that is a beautiful model  Had you photographed it in front of a scenic backdrop instead of pure white, I would not have realized that it was a model. I now understand that, for every excellent model, there is a modeller with a vivid and unfettered imagination .... WOW  I hope your New Year provides all the time you would possibly want for Badger Creek [IMG]

Built just like a real building! Man, that is amazing. Perhaps one day I too will have the patience! Good Job Paul.
