OK, team, most of the pictures from Saturday Aug 7 are uploaded to the Community Webshots page: http://community.webshots.com/user/atsf_arizona_at_chantilly One more long final day tomorrow, Manufacturer's Breakfast at 8-930am EDT, then ? , then Layout Tours in the afternoon. Just getting to bed now as I was over at the N Scale Collector's (NSC) Convention walking the hallways ( a NSC tradition ) wherein attendees open their hotel rooms, sell cool N scale stuff, and get to know each other. I was over there till 2am. OK, off to bed, and will on Sunday evening post the final day's activities, as well as clean up and add some miscellaneous pictures here and there.
Hi, all, It's 11am at Chantilly on Sunday morning, Aug 8. Just finished the Manufacturer's Breakfast (in which each manufacturer gets 3 minutes to overview whatever new products they want to talk about)), will post transcript later tonight. I know most of you are waiting for that, the majority of the info was already posted yesterday. For you Z scalers, Micro-Trains' Eric Smith did state this morning that in Summer 2005, MT would be releasing sectional Z scale track, a Z scale #6 turnout, and a Z scale GP35. Also tonight will be more photos from the Contest Winners. The Best Diesel was already photographed - the Pennsylvania Baldwin Passenger Sharknoses. Finally will be Layout Tours this afternoon..... followed by some final World's Biggest Layout breakdown pictures. Statistics and factoids about the layout: - Have not seen it myself, but I'm told there is a two page article in this morning's Washington Post about the World's Biggest Layout (section C I am told). The line outside the Expo Center was already long and still forming at 930am (show opens at 10am). - Total modules at the show: 526 - Total modules on the "Red Line" loop encompassing the entire circuit: 479 - Total modules traversed for a train circling the loop (some modules are traversed twice, once going one way, once going other way on a different line): 584 - 77.9 scale miles in the Red Line Route, 2336 actual feet On other topics at this morning's Breakfast: - Jim Fitzgerald, one of the originators of NTrak back in early 70's, was honored for his contributions by both the Japanese NTrak continegent and the N Scale Convention - The Japanese NTrak contingent stated it was dream come true for them for Japanese NTrak and TTrak modules to participate in the World's Biggest Layout - - - - - - OK, all, see you tonight!
Excellent reporting John. Thank you very much That Lance Mindheim layout looks great. We could all(well most of us) take a lesson from his scenery to track ratio. I love it Dan
John,Thanks for making me feel like I'm standing next to you in Va. This is the next best thing to beinga there!!!!!!!!!!Mike
Hi, all, You all are very kind. I'm glad you get some kicks out of it! New feature set of photos that will show up tonight also: attended Greg Scott's (of GHQ) "Zen Master Steam Locomotives". See below a bit of why I was so hypnotized by his clinic. That's Greg in the upper right: OK, I'm out the door now to Layout Tours. Oh, right now there's 8,000 to 10,000 people over at the Expo Center gawking at the Layout. See you all tonight!
Hi, all, Here is another great web site on the Chantilly convention, this by one of the host NVNTrak members: "David Davies <dbdavies@cox.net> Subject: Capitol Limited N-scale East 2004 pictures There are 57 images of at least 640 pixel resolution, so dialup connection will take some time to load..... http://members.cox.net/dbdavies/Classic/Classic.htm Dave" And as you've seen on my other posts, the improved ATSF_Arizona_at_chantilly websites are up. Due to additional photographs, there are now two albums (due to Community Webshots limitations): Everything about Chantilly except Layout Tours: http://community.webshots.com/user/atsf_arizona_at_chantilly Chantilly Layout Tours: http://community.webshots.com/user/atsf_arizona_layout_tours The photos have all been sorted by topic so you can more easily find what interests you. Necessary as there are in total, approx 396 photos requiring 60.13 woo woo woo of space. This is a not-for-profit project, intended to share the spirit, joy, and memories of Chantilly with us all. Enjoy!
Thanks for the pic John! We were shocked when we went to break down our modules Sunday evening some 3hrs after the show ended to find that two of our modules had won ribbons. Two Honorable Mentions out of 500+ modules I thought was especially awesome. We didn't even know we were entered! Also, each module in the show received a little placque indicating that it had been part of the convention. Ours will wear them proudly.
Congrats George! But what I want it know, is where are the pics of you and Deb accepting the awards? I wanted a face to put with the name.
