Found these shots while sorting out things in the railroad room. They're pics of Columbus & Greenville motive power taken in Greenwood, MS back in September 1994. This particular railroad runs east-west through the Magnolia State, and interchanges with the IC (or is it CN?) Yazoo Valley Main in Greenwood. Most likely the CF7s and some of the GP7s are gone now, but there are a couple of highnose GP38s (from Southern Railway) on the roster. For more pics, go toRailroading Redneck Style. Hope y'all like 'em! C&G CF7 808, in dead storage, Greenwood, MS, September 1994. Unit is ex-Santa Fe. CAGY GP7 1000, ex-C&NW, sports the new colors of the railroad, and has just been fired up prior to service on the West End run. CAGY GP7 608 (ex-Florida East Coast 608) awaits its next assignment. This diesel and several other ex-FEC GP7s and ATSF CF7s came to replace the Baldwins obtained after CAGY got its independence from ICG in the 1970s.
I was living in MS up until last November. Unfortuately I never got to see the Columbus and Greenville. I did however, find a great website that had pictures of the C&G as well as other shortlines in and around MS. According to the information on the site there were still some CF7s on the roster in 01. Some of the other shortlines use them as well. It seems that CF7s go to Mississippi to die. I'll try to find more info on that website because there was some great pictures. John Bursi
Found the website. It's www.geocities.com/redsdixie/ As I said there are pictures from several other shortlines as well the CAGY. Check out the pictures of the Holly Springs station in the Mississippi Central section. I tried to plan a trip to see it but it fell through, oh well. The Bay Line is another line I like. Someday I hope to build models represent both lines.
John, Appreciate the link to Terry Redeker's site- lotsa great pages! I noticed his Kiamichi photo album is under construction- I believe I can post some KRR pics here (from 1987 to 1998), as well as some more TO&E shots. Living in western Colorado, I had access to heavy-duty Class 1 railroading, but I missed my favorites- the shortlines. And even though I got some shots of the Utah Railway, it ain't like an easy-goin' Southern shortline train moseyin' down a grassy track, cars in tow, making all of 10-25 MPH.
