The Chicago & North Western's Milwaukee, WI station is less remarked and was less photographed than the Milwaukee Road's station. The C&NW's lakefront edifice was built in 1889 and remained in service until 1966 when its valuable real estate was acquired by city planners for a new freeway and a park. The C&NW abandoned its lakefront line and moved its trains to the new MILW station south of town. The C&NW station fell to the wrecking ball in 1968. The freeway was never built.
Wow, sad. It was a beautiful station, and a nice place for one(except in winter!) with waterfront parking!
At least the freeway was never built. And it appears that this site was not far from a ferry. Rail/car?
