I just read that Bill Gates owns 5.8% of CN America shares, that's 1.68 million dollars folks! That's like you or I going into a hobby store and buying a new trainset! Pocket change for him though. Why buy model trains, when you can have the real one?!
Sure seems like a small dollar amount, to own that percentage of a railroad's stocks. Common shares? Boxcab E50
Billion would be more like as there is no way CN's market cap is less $50million. Heck, that is less way than CN's current order of new ES44 locos.
Found CNI (Canadian National Railway Company), but no CN America. 5.8 percent is about 2.9 billion US$. 1.074 billion shares outstanding; 46.64 US$ per share today. Maybe it's some kind of preferred stock or options. Still, it's a lot more than my model railroad budget. If we could get Mr. Gates to join Trainboard, we could ask him. OTOH, we could probably get an extra server, too. [ April 06, 2006, 07:50 PM: Message edited by: Flash Blackman ]
I thought so. The decimal point was definitely a few places left of where it should have been. Boxcab E50
