I'm attempting my first basement (both) layout. I am going with 2x4 modules and have all but 4 connected (2 done and 2 to build) so I can start after I design a final track plan. I am on a tight budget and do not want to pay for track planning software. So I have chosen to go with XtrackCAD, but am having the same issue with it as the free Atlas. I can not figure out how to make the benchwork in the shape of the actual benchwork. When I use the tool to set an edge that is as far as it will go and the rulers on the bottom and side don't stay to scale. Inch two is way bigger than Inch one. Any one have any ideas? I've tried the (draw benchwork and draw table edge) and get nothing. I see no point in placing track on an open ended table. If it would help I can upload a copy of the benchwork. Thanks one way or another, Bruce

If you post a sketch showing your benchwork and track plan ideas I might be able to draw something up for you.

Welcome to TrainBoard TTL! Would be interesting to see a drawing of your idea and/or pics of the bench work so far. What scale are you doing?

With the Atlas, you go to edit, then create baseboard. You then left click on a start point and draw a line. When you need to change direction you click again and then go in the new direction......the measuring arrows should move with the pointer. when you are done, right click to end the line.

HO scale. Attached is a very basic sketch of an appx. track plan. At this point all options are still open. 2x4 modules with 2 inch rigid foam board tops on almost all and some with 35 year old Homasote tops. At this time not interested in switching operations. I uploaded 2 images but they are not appearing but it showed a successful upload.

I was able to download the file with no problem. But I am using the FREE XtrackCAD which can not open the file. I have nothing to open it with. Pretty sure you need to convert it to something that can be displayed like a PDF or a text document of some sort or a BMP or JPEG

The file above is just a word doc with the picture of the SCARM screen. If you want the SCARM file I need to send that to you, but you would need the free version of SCARM. For whatever reason it will not let me upload a jpg of it either even though it is only 906k.
