Just thought that I would share a photo of prototype model of the Broadway Limited 2-6-6-4 Class "A" articulated #1218.

Looks pretty good and seems comparable to the latest steam from other manufacturers. May not quite be to the detail level of the Allegheny or Y3, but the Class A had smoother lines than those locomotives anyway.

I hope it runs as good as it looks!

Again---the first to bring you information and photos of the latest steam projects for HO scale fans!!!

    bnsf4354 out!!!

Y3a, Bigboy, Allegheny photos included for comparison purposes only.

:D Sure WOULD make an good base for a B&O KB-1, KB-2 "2-6-6-4"! Even a KK-1, KK-2 "2-6-6-2". All 4 of these for the B&O were high speed freight and the KB class was a buy from Seaboard in 1947 so.... I'd be crazy enough to try..... Knowing me. I would too! BUT I'd rather sink a chunk of pocket change into an Allegheny first and leave it as is! This is if I had the cash to spare! :D

John, as you know I have an Allegheny (it's been a year and it still hasn't been taken out of the box---a crime for sure  ) and I have a personal attatchment to it since I am friends with the major US consultant to Riv on the project, but this Class A is really sweet looking.

The driver wheels have a better silver coating on them--not as shiny as the H-8 which is more realistic. It also has a more realistic clearance under the firebox (Riv left too much room between it and the rear truck on the H-8). Finally, it comes with DCC and sound installed for about $20 more  .

As much as I like the Riv H-8, I think that I would rather get 2 Class A's for the money. However, you being a B&O man I can understand your logic.

Maybe that Trix Bigboy is as good, but I won't put $500 out for that! I will save my money for the Penn T-1 and the Bachmann 2-6-6-2 in Nov '03 and get both for the price of the Trix!!! That means no 2-8-4 from Proto for me :(

BY THE WAY----if you haven't gotten a P2k 2-8-8-2 yet, I can tell you where to get either NW or UNDECS for $195 each!!!! [IMG] I will be getting another for a late Christmas present to go with my other 2. Now that's a good deal!!!!

    BNSF,
I know a few reasons why theirs alittle more space with the Riv.... Its because its made to where it'll run on 15 inch radius! They made the rear set of engines articulate as well as the front and needed the clearances to allow this! As for the drawbar clearances and spacing, THIS IS adjustable! Look at the drawbar end, that plastic thing its adjustable to suit you, to whatever radius track you'll be using on curves!

As for the A My logic is B&O all the way. I could make that a real nice looking KB or KK loco for the B&O.... BUT my funding isn't what I'd have to have to get one. As for the Y3, I wouldn't mind getting one to make it a B&O EL-2 or EL-3 but.....I kinda killed the funding for now to do a B&O passenger train ABBA set of E-8's and 22 passenger cars so....Not to mention the diesels I'm redesigning and building. Hopefully orders for these designs are heavy and then maybe I can get one or the other.... But for now. I'll play with the ones I got and the one I'm trying to work a deal on getting from an O scaler that has a Riv Y6b so.. That we're doing some dealing on..... As he needs some repairs and we're close friends so. I'm gonna trade him the repairs he needs for the Y6b and call it even as long as its not to heavy of work his O scale loco's need....

John, would a Class A be anymore out of place on your B&O than an Allegheny?

Certainly understand your lack of funds situation---sounds like some good stuff going on in the roundhouse!

That ABB set up sounds very nice indeed. And getting another Riv is always a good thing. Now that they have improved the 4-8-4s, the BigBoys and Challengers they are truly tops in steam. Proto is awesome, but only one articluated so far and BLI is unproven so far so RIV rules for now.

I will get an "A", an SD70mac from Kato, and probably a 2-6-6-2 but that is all for next year. I must get a layout first!!!

Well, I guess I'm just the opposite. I got my Y3, my Y6, Spectrum J, SW9, and a 4-8-2 Mtn, already, with the money saved to order the Class A. And, I haven't even started the layout yet! Just built a 4-BR house, with one of the rooms earmarked for the layout, but still haven't found the time.

    Well BNSF,
It all depends on the A and the H-8! I model the B&O/C&O, in steam and diesel..... So.... The H-8 wouldn't be to out of place.. BUT the A I know would be if I kept it factory. BUT thats why I said about doing a B&O KB or KK class articulated with it! :D And being big on hauling coal. The H-8 would sure be at home! JUST one thing tho, the B&O RULES my mainlines! :D BUT I have a few things in C&O I'd love to nail a 2-8-4 C&O and even a 4-6-4 for a C&O passenger but.... THATS after I get my B&O passenger done!

As for the backshop of my roundhouse, I'm designing diesel chopped slugs, like Chessie ran and all to sell. Plus have at least one for my own collection.... I'm doing 3 different versions, one is the basic EMD based unit that was a GP-7/9, most likely a GP-9 cut down. And then a ALCO version that was a cut down S-2/4 that the Western Maryland had. And finally a G.E version that I believe was a cut down B-23-7 or something really close to.... in CSX/Seaboard.... I currently got the Chessie EMD version about ready for paint which it will soon be a displayed unit and begin taking orders for. HOWEVER once I begin advertising it, I'll take the orders for a custom build and begin designing the second phase ALCO version and so on....

I'm not to fond of the diesel thing. as most of you know but. I have a few "rarities" I wouldn't mind having, I'm hell bent on the first generation E units, and F units, and all... I'm going to go about doing a ABA set of RF-16's "Sharks" made from TYCO bodies, and have a Athearn powered frame and the TYCO truck side frames fitted to the Athearn geared inner truck frames.... But thats a little in the future!
