Some bridges have them, some dont... why? Also, if I plan on making some bridges with rerailers/guard rails, is there any "kits" that I'm able to purchase? I'd like to use them in my tunnels as well to prevent AWOL trains [ 28. August 2003, 21:12: Message edited by: nscale_lover ]
There's a good question. I have also wondered why some bridges didn't have guard rails. Always thought it was a "standard" safety feature. Having them inside of tunnels is not unusual. I've seen them used in snowsheds, too! Boxcab E50
hopefully I'm clear about what those things are called - the rails inside the normal rails that usually taper at the ends - rerailers?
Yes they are guard rails, no there is no "kit" to build them. Here is what I do, cause they are relatively simple to install. Buy rail (only, from someone like ME) of the next size down from the rail you are using. So if you are using Atlas Code 80, buy some ME code 55 rail. Then just lay the rail in the track as if you were handlaying rail - cause this is what you are doing. Make sure you clear the flangeways with an NMRA gauge, and that will give you the proper spacing. Then just make the bend and spike em down.
There is code 40 available from Micro Engineering. Go by Discount Model Trains, I think they stock it. Also, you can probably glue it down using Walther's Goo or the one of the new CA glues that work on Delrin.
