Hello, my name is Pedro and I am from Brazil. Here we have some interesting locomotives and great trains too. Specially, I´d like to show our rebuilt and brand new locomotives using BB+BB trucks on meter gauge EFVM and FCA. The rebuilt locos came from USA and Canada They are former DRGW SD40T-2, UP, CP and SP SD40-2, CR, ATSF, C / B36-7. Now they are BB40T-2, BB40-2 and BB36-7. Also, we have GE BB40-8, BB40-9 and BB40-9W on rails, but these were built new as BB units specially to EFVM. Since I´m new here, I do not know how to post pictures of them here, if possible. Let me know how to do it. Thanks pedro
Pedro: I told these guys there were BB-BB trucks on these engines. I sure hope we can get some pictures. Welcome to Trainboard.
Yes, I have posted some pictures of them here: http://www.railroadforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4221 http://www.railroadforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1457
Pedro, Welcome to Trainboard!! The best way to post pics here is to set up a Rail Images account and then post pictures in either the International Railroads Fourm or the Railfan Photos Fourm. We will all enjoy seeing your pics.
Yes, I also have pictures there: FCA BB40-2: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/locoList.aspx?mid=995 FCA BB40T-2: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/locoList.aspx?mid=996 EFVM BB45-2: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/locoList.aspx?mid=938 EFVM BB36-7: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/locoList.aspx?mid=934 EFVM DDM45: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/locoList.aspx?mid=936 EFVM DDM45MP: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/locoList.aspx?mid=949 EFVM BB40-9W: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/locoList.aspx?mid=943 EFVM BB40-9: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/locoList.aspx?mid=942 EFVM BB40-8: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/locoList.aspx?mid=944 Others: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/modelList.aspx
Welcome aboard! There were some "Little Joe" as we call them, style GE electric locos once on the Paulista RR. Do you know what ever happened to them? Boxcab E50
The electric lines in São Paulo state stopped operation in 1998 and all units are in yard waiting to be scrapped. The brazilian Russas (as we call them here) are in Jundiaí, and one unit was donated to the Jundiaí museum. You can see pictures of them here: EX US DIESELS IN BRAZIL http://www.railroadforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1457 Pedro
I'm going to get you setup in RailSeek tonight as a new website on our search engine... http://pedrop.rrpicturearchives.net/
Harold: Pedro talks about that on the N Scale forum in approximately the same thread. It's a good answer, and obvious, too after he says it, that is! Here: http://www.trainboard.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi/ubb/get_topic/f/9/t/007285.html?
The reason for the multiple axles has to do with loading guage, not traction motor size... A lower loading guage means you need more axles to support a given weight. Current meter guage traction motors are every bit as capable of handling hp output as standard guage motors in a six-axle configuration.
So, now we have two different opinions on this? Does an eight axle engine have more traction, then? More traction motors; more traction?
You'd think the two extra axels/4 extra wheels making contact with the rail would provide some additional traction? The weight is the same, but would the additional load on the alternator from the two extra traction motors negate this traction?Mmm mouth full that one is! Where's Prof. Jerry when ya need him
Agreed, Jason. The alternator is the limit. If so, then no matter what the traction motor will do, the traction on a three axle truck and a four axle truck would be the same. Then, why add the extra axle? Only for rail loading, it seems, unless the smaller traction motors will not take as many amps. And, we are back to the starting point in the circular discussion.
