Hello all. I am trying to put together a family tree of sorts for all the major railroads in the US and Canada. I would like to know what rail roads merged to form other rail roads, or what roads were bought out by other roads. For example, I know BNSF was formed by a merger between Berlington Northern and Santa Fe. What can you tell me about the history of BN?? What happened to BN? Who bought it out? I will be researching this on the internet, but any info you can add would be greatly appreciated. I will be asking a similar question of each of the major Roads in the other Rail Road forums, so please feel free to lay out as much info as you like. Thanks All!
Not even sure where to begin as a 200+ page book could be written just about the Burlington Northern predecessor roads. There are several out there. How detailed did you want to get? Quanah Acme & Pacific Railway Company or the Frisco? If you have specific questions you may also want to join the BN Yahoo Group. http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/BNlist/ Friends of BN RR http://www.fobnr.org/
In a nutshell: BN = GN + NP + CB&Q + FRISCO + SP&S + SF; Now, if you want to break down the predecessor roads.. yer on your own LOL Tim
Actually SF wasn't part of BN..... :teeth: There were a plethora of subsidiaries in 1970. C&S, OE, OT, FW&D, and............. Always verify what those web sites show. There are a couple I have seen, with some BIG errors! Boxcab E50
Dave, duplicate topics deleted as per your request. Ken, Tim is right. They made the mistake of adding the 'SF' to BN and changing the colours to something horrid in a fit of insanity. It should be green and black with NO white faces. It's only natural.
