....has been sitting in the same spot for over a year now? It looks like it recieved a little damage to one of the porch ends, and now is slowly being vandalized. Anyone know where I can get info?
Sorry fella's, been a busy month!! Ya' if you go over the 196th bridge, look south, and there she sits. Ya' think anyone would notice if a rather large crane, and a flatbed trailer and truck, just kinda' scooped it up one night? I'd leave an IOU.
Well, checked on her again today, and looked around...man, this thing is beat!! It's on a stub-end track with the facing coupler broke, all four corners have some sort of damage, even the cupola looks like it was almost sheared off! The springs in one truck have a wood wedge between them to hold them together. She's beat!
No, she's just been used ALOT in local service! Still there though. On the other side of the bridge, in the yard, there's 8or9 switchers, and a SF GP30 and BN GP38 sitting in a storage line.
Sadly that caboose is not much worse then the ones we still use. They rebuilt a few of them at Interbay and Tacoma last year but most of them are very beat up, broken windows, vandalized inside and out, very rough riding and no working lights. I would like to see them at least put some working back up lights on them so you do not have to make long shoves in the dark but at the very least the busted up ones still beat riding a freight car. Kevin
While air testing on crew two (Intebay-Tacoma local) the other night I went through this caboose. The inside is alright considering the lights/radio/ electronics are trashed. Both end walkways are bashed in as is the cupola on one side. The build date says 1972 and it also is stenciled for assinged coal service. Altough I have tried to spend as much time in Spokane as I can the 3 times I have worked in Seattle I have never seen this cabose moved. Kevin
As much as it used to bother me I a using cabooses on my layout!!! restored and repainted in BN!!! I wish There could be more cabooses restored instead of just sitting rusting away even parked at a museum sitting neglected.
IT'S GONE!!!! Anyone know where she went? Hopefully not to scrap!! Drove by today, and there's an empty spot where she's been sitting forever.
Hopefully, not being made into soup cans. But.... Where are the local scrappers these days, with spurs into their yards? Boxcab E50
All I know is, they must of had one heck of a time dragging it out of there!! Coupler was pulled out of the pocket, one of the truck springs was collapsed and had a 4"x4" holding it off the ground, and about every other thing possible gone wrong with it!! Anyway to trace her, or anyone know what her fate is?
From what I can find on the computer it is showing in track 6039 at Kent Wa. I will check in a few days to see if it shows something differant. There is always the chance that it went to Interbay where over the past year they have re-built some cabooses. Kevin
Well I am still not sure where it is but I got back into the computer and it still says Kent but I also dug deaper and found that it has been taged several times as Destroyed level 8. Before that is showed as Destroyed level 4 and as early warning status. What that means is beyond me but I do not think it is good. Kevin
