I just use Floquil Engine Black on the wheels, and that graphite/alcohol stuff from PBL for the rods.
Robert, Thanks. Do you disassemble the loco to pain the wheels or do you paint them still on the loco? John
I do pretty much the same as Robert except I mix in some grimey black, as I like the way it looks when dried, just a little more dusty looking.
I keep meaning to get some Grimey Black, but they don't sell Floquil at my LHS (Hobby Town), so I have to drive to another county to get some.
Funny you should say that, becasue I can't tell you how many times I went to pick some up and it was out of stock! I think the versitility of grimey black is why it is so popular, it can be used on telephone poles, ties and it looks like dried out wood. On anything metal is gives a dusty dirty look. I think I use it more than any color and I am constantly mixing it into other paints.
I really hate to say this and I am not trying to be rude ... but since I know you have an internet connection, why not just order it through one of the many suppliers online? Save on gas, save the frustration of it not being in stock. Just a couple of vendors for you: www.walthers.com http://www.nscalesupply.com/PLS/PLS.html Just my thoughts... Mr X
Actually I did try to order some the last time I ordered from Micro-Mark, and it was back ordered, and I never heard from them. I usually try to make an order for over $50 when I buy online to help offset the shipping. Sometimes I just plain forget to look.
Robert, that is so true. I buy a lot of stuff that I truly dont need just to justified the shipping charge, but sometimes I get a gem. Like those tweezer set I got from Aaron.
