Looks like MTL is going to have some competition in the passenger car market. Don't recall seeing these mentioned here before. Looks like they're using the modern day Heritage Fleet cars as inspiration, but not much has changed since they were built. They say operating diaphragms, so I'm curious if they will be modern tubular style to match the car, or if they are going to be traditional diapragms.

Looks like a cast metal truck as well.

    Mike,
I've heard these are going to be Rapid Prototype cars and judging from the photo's and the bow in the underframe, I suspect so as well. Of course these might be just proto shots, we've done the same thing to check our parts...Heck, the more the merrier...come on in, the pool is deep!

Well, they're offering the trucks for sale separately too, but I'm sure locla modelers will be looking at MTL cars. I know I will, with exchange and overseas shipping, those coaches will work out to about $50 CDN each. I hope MTL's will be slightly less expensive ;)

That said, more coaches is better. More selection. These guys should have started turning out Heavyweights.

Dan, your right, more the better, and Heavyweights would have been nice as well especially when you are developing smooth sides! So far the engineering here at MTL is going well and production looks like it's on track and on time. Given the paint schemes and complexities I suspect these will be priced in the same range as the other Z Cars...each, and cheaper in Sets of 4 or 5 depending on how we position this. Our N scale Troop Sleeper is for all intents a passenger car and the pricing is in line with other N Cars...so these smooth sides in Z should be as well. We have the luxury of quantity in our production and are able to keep the costs within reason for a car this size.

    Cheers

Joe that is good news! When I modeled N scale the troop sleepers were a favorite of mine and looked fantastic. If the heaveyweights look as good in Z and are priced about the same, they will be snapped up quickly by people...myself included! :D
