    Welcome to Trainboard.

I use Color Canyon Materials very fine natural rock ballast on the JJJ&E. It comes in many colors and grades.

I have used "Highball Products". Spraying with rubbing alcohol just prior to applying the scenic cement with an eye dropper works great.

    Bob,
Interesting link, I'm also using WS but they sell ballast in fine, medium & course grades. The link sells it in grade 00 to 09, which grade would you recommend for n scale ballast? (would 00 be too fine?)

    Bernard:

I mix one bag of 00 with one bag of 01 to get a consistency that I want. The mix of 00 and 01 will give you a very fine ballast size which is what you want for N scale.

I've used this ballast for years on the JJJ&E. The only LHS in the West Palm Beach area stocked that ballast. I bought the red ore ballast and also have a pinkish ballast that I'll use for the addition I'm working on. This LHS has since closed about two years ago.

000 has the consistency of flour and is too fine, They also make that grade. I have several bags of that grade.

I highly recommend the Color Canyon Materials Natural Rock Ballast. It spreads beautifully and looks great when finished. They have an extensive range of colors.

This is the ballasted Unitrack with Color Canyon Materials Natural Rock Ballast. ( one part 00 and one part 01)
