Very impressive, Paul! About time we saw some more pics of Aussie trains You appear to be standing on the tracks - good thing it is your job to be there Please keep your camera busy so we can see some more. Where was the train coming from/going to? I see you are not immune from graffitti artists down under
Nice pics I would post a photo i have on my computer of a container train in brisbane, but its not my photo, and i dont know who's it is. So i wont. I used to pass a container facility on the train every day on my way to college, that was cool. I need to take some of my own photos. It makes me sad that almost every train i see is covered in graffiti, even some of the suburban electric trains.
Those are nice photos, Paul. It's great you can up close and personal for train photos, being an employee and all. I assume those are diesel locos running under wire, since I don't see any pantographs ...
Great Pictures, surprising how similar that looks to some of the UK's rail system, I guess the weather is warmer down there though!
Paul, those are impressive looking locomotives. Do you know how powerful they are? I see they are lettered National Rail, is this a relatively new company?
Yes these locomotives are GEC Dash 9's modified for Australian conditions. NR (National Rail) was a federal government owned corporation. This company as well as Freight Corp (State government owned) have been sold to a private company which now calls itself Pacific National. This company also owns the major cotainer ports as well as one of the largest trucking companies. It's long term plan is to use rail between its ports to transport intrmodal around the country. Although the Sydney metropolitan area is under wire all elctric locomotives for freght services have been put into storage
