The Hoffman Valley RR has announced the "sale" of it's #2 passenger locomotive, F9#1973. For information on how to make it yours for free follow the link below. I will choose one NARA N-scaler living in the USA at random, by computer to give it a new home. All I ask in return is a pic or two of the engine on it's new road to promote the concept of NARA and it's interchange/trackage rights concept.
Of course, I will accept any N-scaler in the USA to apply so long as they agree to the terms above of supplying a pic and supporting NARA! Follow the link to my site below and click on the Sale announcement link.
This is purely for the promotion of the hobby and interchanges between us. No money will be used in this "transaction" except for the postage that I have to pay to ship it(Which is why I request a USA resident - I am a broke modeler!)
    Thank-you!

A post script to the above:
If you would like a shot at the F9 and do not belong to NARA, feel free to join. It is a free membership and it does not matter which scale you model so long as you are modeling the North American Rail scene.

    Happy Railroading all!

What was the URL for the "NARA" site? I'm curious, and am hoping to explore the concept to see what it's all about. I thought that somewhere in the recent past I had seen a link to a "NARA" web site. So, I decided perhaps a search would locate it.

I did find: www.one-rail.com/ Which is an official web site for a joint venture by CN-IC and the KCS named "The North American Rail Alliance." But I don't think that this is model RR related....... :D

    Hey Catt,
Regarding the link that Boxcab poted above, it looks like the real railroads imitating us modelers for a change!

The link to the real world that Boxcab presented here was a very interesting site. The NAFTA railroad show up a lot of information about the five railroads involved. History, railmaps, and photos as well. They are 13 years ahead of NARA.
    I can recommend a visit!

Maybe we should change our name to the North American Model Rail Alliance ???

    Nop!
I don´t think we should change our name.
It´s not the first time there have been collisions between two organisation names, and if no juridical issues, there is no need to change it. Anyhow, NARA will never act as a competitor to NAFTA. They run their lines, and we run ours :D

I have my self seen a similar coincident in the 80´s: My former employer was Kockums Computer Systems (KCS), and at the same time there was Kansas City Systems (KCS) ;)

Helge is correct. Plus, we have more RR's involved than they do! ;)

Bob Thompson, owner of the Paris and Mount Saint Pleasant Railroad
was the winning bidder for HVRR F9 #1973. Unit will be transferred to
CSX for transport on Monday afternoon. We at the HVRR look forward
to seeing her on her new road.

The management and employees of the Paris & Mt. Pleasant Railroad are pleased to hear this news, and eagerly await the arrival of F9 1973. The arrival of 1973 comes not a moment too soon, as traffic levels have risen to the point where motive power of any kind is needed- if it can load up and pull freight, it's put to work.

When time allows, the new locomotive will go into the shop for repairs and repainting into the paint scheme for the P&MtP's Cotton Patch Flyer, complete with passenger cars from other sources. Its partner will be E8 2016, painted in full Frisco "racehorse" colors (at the insistence of CMO P.U. Nethgil and the President and Chief Flunky).

When 1973 arrives via the UP interchange at Mt. Pleasant, pictures will be taken. It may work in a "patch" paint job for a while, but despair not- we got cars to move. [IMG]

The Paris & Mt. Pleasant RR has received the former Hoffman Valley RR 1973, an F9, from the Cotton Belt interchange at Mt. Pleasant. It has been moved DIT to the shops at Paris, where it will undergo inspection by shop crews, and necessary repairs will be made (as well as sandblasting & a paint job) before placing it into freight service.

Since the railroad has not yet received passenger cars, the renumbered 1986 will be in freight service, running with either GP7 1836 or GP20 1845.

Once again, the management of the P&MtP expresses its gratitude to the Hoffman Valley Railroad and its President, Russ Hoffman, for the opportunity to receive this fine vintage locomotive.

Oh yes, the correct URL for the P&MtP website is http://www.geocities.com/friscobob_2000/Cyberspace_Flagstop

Just click on the website box to the right -->

    From the Paris Shops:

P&MtP F9 1986, the former Hoffman Valley 1973, has been stripped of all paint down to bare metal (using some strange concoction the crews call Billy Bob's Paint Remover, which smells oddly enough like moonshine), and is being cleaned prior to repainting. A debate is brewing on how to rework the draft gear, and plans are being drawn up for just such a conversion.

The arrival of the "covered wagon" created a bit of a stir among employees, and one engineer grumbled that he'd never be caught dead switching with one. I had to pointedly remind him that Class 1 railroads switched out cars with F units for years, and that the nearby Louisiana & North West RR still runs Fs.
He was given the option of either running the F or being transferred to the B&B gang, which is currently replacing part of the old Sulphur River trestle with a steel deck girder span. The argumentative hogger allowed as to how it may be fun to run a F unit, and that he didn't care to fight water moccasins and "skeeters" while trying to remove old timbers out of a swamp.

When the rebuild & repaint is complete, we will post pictures.

The shop crews are pleased with the current condition of 1986- they tip their hats to the boys at the Hoffman Valley for their expertise. Looks like the only work needing to be done will be new draft geat (M-T couplers).

We received 1986 from the Cotton Belt, who got it in interchange from Conrail at St. Louis (it traveled half the continent and 2 decades back in time- we're here in the mid-1980s. Which leads me to a question- what the heck kinda engine was THAT Conrail was using? We've never even seen that from the EMD or GE sales guys) :D :D :D

Ah, the joys of freelancing! :D

Errrrr......experimental equipment from area 54? :D LOL - Don't forget, the train went through a time warp over the Mississippi, jumping from 2002 to 198x!

F9 1986 has been stripped, and is undergoing test runs out on the line. With the GP7 down and carloadings up, all available motive power is needed. The crews aren't wild about switching with it, but they like the way it loads up & pulls.

One of the boys in the shops has made up an interesting proposal for a paint scheme- kinda looks a little bit like the Texas & Pacific, too :D
Take a look at the web page, and the link to the route map for the picture.

    Comments are welcome! [IMG]

Well, time tends to move kinda slow here in the South......... (tongue-in-cheek comment meant with lots of love for the area, not to mention tough in-laws)

    We're still working with Dash-8s and 50-series
diesels off the Cotton Belt. Matter of fact, they're telling us that cabooses may be going away, replaced by a little black box with a red light called FRED. Won't tell ya what they say it stands for. ;) :D
'Sides, we kinda like our crummies.

Bob - That engine will look sharp in your livery! I look forward to seeing her pulling revenue on your road. Also, I updated my site to reflect the current information and fixed the broken link to your site.

    Happy Railroading!
