Here's the one tree so far. This area is almost done. Added some rocks around the base of the castings to blend them in more.
I'll see how it looks tomorrow when it's all dry and add more from there. Going to add some grass too. Then, up with the tape in this area and I'll ballast the track here.
All these trees were cheaply made by finding sticks on hikes that look like 'trees' and putting clumps of foliage on them with glue in random patterns. They turned out better then I hoped.
Here's a pretty good shot of the trees going up the hill. Believe it or not, thats only about $10.00 worth of trees.
I started this thread with 'ATSF Line Started' and haven't even touched the Line. I did need to get the sub-roadbed in to get the scenery started, so............... Here really is the start of the ATSF Main. Cork is down today.
While waiting for the ballast to dry, I added some extra detailing to the scene. Here's an old Oak that fell during the last storm.
Hey JD, I noticed some ballast on the inside of the rails. Run your fingernail down the insides. Then when its totally dry, vacuum up the loose stone. Take it from my inexperience, gears on trucks & ballast don't mix. Besides that, you did a wonderful job. It looks very realistic,as it should.:teeth:
"FINGER NAIL" down the inside of the rail? Isn't ballastig enough of a punishment for playing with toys? I use the finest tool ever made use of in model buildinng - it's great for EVERY TASK you got in layout building. It's darn near free and easy to get. OK - I'll etll you what it is. A toothpick. Use it and save your nails for biting at a scary movie or when you look back and discover the taxes you paid last year - either way you'll need them. Toots
Dang, I need to slough off more at work to keep up with the amazing progress you've made!!!!!!! Very nice! Is the ATSF line a static line, or will it be an operable mainline?
I just finished the 'clean-up' on the rail sides, and some of the ties. Like John said.....ballasting is a nightmare! It has not been too hot here so it took alittle longer for the glue to dry then I had hoped. It looks much better with the 'rocks' off the rail sides. Pictures to come.......later.
