hi all Sometimes looking at pictures of the 40' ATSF boxcars like the one of the El Capitan I have noticed that 2 logo appears one is 'only all coaches Chicago to Los Angeles coaches streamliners' the other one is 'streamliners coaches to the west' Did ATSF have 2 different slogans on El Capitan boxcars or there was time period for the one and another different time period when this slogan were used? thanks very much
According to Santa Fe Railway Painting and Lettering Guide for Model Railroads, Vol.1, Rolling Stock (Richard Hendrickson, Santa Fe Modelers Organization Inc., 1990): the slogan "(large) El Capitan (small caps) COACH STREAMLINER (italics) West was used on approximately one-fifth of each group of boxcars and refrigerator cars painted 1940-1947. p.34 Then from approximately 1947-1958, six slogans were used. The El Cap slogan was "(small caps) THE ROUTE OF (large) El Capitan (small) Only All Coach Chicago-Los Angeles Streamliner" p.35 When older cas were repainted with the new slogans is not documented except through photos of individual cars...
