Can anyone direct me to or tell me what the switch angles are for Atlas Code 55 #5 and #7 switches? I'd like to know in degrees so that I can draw it out on my layout for proper alignment. Thanks!!!
Timmithy First off let me welcome you to the forum. And to answer your question, a 5# switch has an 11 deg. angle and a #7 switch has an 8 deg. angle.
GimpLizard, I think your right, I just did a quick detail on autocad to figure it out, but at the time I think I had the tolerance set to round off to the nearest degree. I did it again and your right about the 11.25 deg. by the way, how did you get the little deg symbol??
I think that a true #5 switch would have an 11.5 degree angle (i.e. inverse sine of .2 = 11.537). Perhaps someone who has had trigonometry more recently than 30 years ago can clarify.
The switch angle is different, that is, the tracks depart at a different angle on different numbered switches. But, unlike the real railroads, I think that the frog angle is the same on all the turnouts. It is a matter of saving manufacturing expense.
Dave, to get the ° symbol you type '248' while holding the 'Alt' key. Alt/0216 wil get you the Ø (diameter) symbol, while Alt/241 will get you ± (plus/minus). Mike
