because they are ensuring that it will run on 9 3/4 inch radius track, according to Cory at Chantilly.

For a top quality, long dreamed of loco such as this, waiting a little longer will be well worth while.

After trying it myself, I can only imagine the Chinese expletives being used in design and assembly of the universals.........

"You have a choice, comrade, for dishonoring the Peoples Party... Four years of hard labor in the mines or two years assembling N scale Atlas Shay Universals!"

yep.... paul told me that the body work is done, but they are still fine tuning the drive train.... i will say that i did personally see it run, and the thing is going to be WELL worth the wait!

he also said that despite the size, there will be room for a decoder of some form, which got me VERY excited!

    thanks atlas guys!

It is very prudent of Atlas to make absolutely sure that it is top-notch before launching. Imagine the furore if a sub-standard model was rushed out!

This is a complex machine in any scale, in N it will be a work of art, and well worth the wait, I am sure [IMG]

That is the only reason that I ordered two of them since I have an awful lot of it after building an Atlas N-18 layout. I would have done some other design if I was remotely aware that only selected locomotives would handle the smaller radius.
