Craig Matryn announced 2 new N Scale items... https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10155197149330110 I can really use that 1967-79 Ford F Series
Other scales get locomotives and cars... we get a freakin' cab and a pick-up... Atlas... where's the love???
There didn't seem to be too much love at all for N scale from trainfest. Scaletrains had a pretty long list of announcements but not a single thing in N scale. And Kato was kind of meh.
Looks like I am the only person who is excited about the truck. It screams 1967 to today, and I want one in blue. I had a blue 67 F250 Camper Special with a 428, a C6 and manual steering and manual drum breaks.
I thought Kato did pretty well - a new Milwaukee road passenger train with an FP7...not that I need one, but still, a whole train...
The pickup is only a perfect match for a F-100 representing the 1973 through 1975 model years. Maybe we can get Atlas to do different grilles to represent the 1976 and 1977 models as well as the 1978 and 1979 models. I am also hoping for some 7.50 X 16 tires and wheels to create a F-250. Carter
For anyone who cannot access the video on Facebook, here is a "placeholder" photo depicting the Atlas 1973 Ford F-100 pickups. This photo will be replaced when a better one becomes available. These are the initial test shots of the new tooling. The pickups should work for anyone modeling from late September 1972 to today! Carter
And in keeping with the thread title, a certain retailer announced this morning the availability of the "MRC 1828 N DCC Diesel Sound Decoder for Atlas SD50/SD60/SD70". SD70? Is there something we're not being told by our friends at Atlas?
I saw that reference to an Atlas SD70, too. I do hope that includes both the straight and flared radiator versions of which UP still seems to have thousands!
My guess is the SD70 reference is a misprint. IIRC, one of the decoder manufacturers has listed an Atlas GP60 as one of the locos it has a drop-fit decoder for...or perhaps it was an online retailer that listed it that way.
TCS has one too for the Atlas SD70. It's true! http://tcsdcc.com/Customer_Content/Installation_Pictures/N_Scale/Atlas/SD70K1D4/SD70_K1D4.html
These new Atlas 1973 F100's are on my wish list. It might be me, but it seems like the 60's and 70's are the lost decades for automobiles. Classic Metal Works has the 50's covered and a list of manufactures seem to have the 80's through current day covered. These 1973 F-100 pickup trucks will be a welcome addition to my layout, thank you Atlas.
Rich, I think the reason we don't see more "new" vehicle models from the 1960s and 1970s is because we had quite a few vehicle models made for that time period during that time period, which was when N scale was just getting started in the U.S. Granted, much of the tooling from that time period leaves a lot to be desired, and many of the models from that period are no longer available. However, when I gathered up my models take the photos for these two pages, I was quite surprised at the number of car and light truck models that I had for 1960s and 1970s. http://nscalevehicles.org/resources/era_1960-1969.php http://nscalevehicles.org/resources/era_1970-1979.php And I see that I need to add the Lemke Volkswagen 1600 Type 3 Squareback and Fastback to the 1960-1969 page. While modelers of all eras could argue they need more models of cars and light trucks, especially models of North American prototypes, Atlas deserves a lot of Kudos for investing in the tooling for N scale vehicle models they do make. And, I am sure we have Paul Graf to thank for that! Carter
Hey Paul, is there going to be a rerun of the Fairmont and have you thought about doing an 85-86 Mustang? There were over 300,000 1986 Mustangs made
