Anyone else notice that the Athearn Challenger delivery has slipped to early October? Will we see this before Christmas?

    Dave:

That doesn't surprise at all. The PCM loco's will probably be released by the end of November as well.

This seems to be the way these companies operate. They flood the market with new merchandise at years end.

I didn't notice. But I'm not surprised. Slippages happen all the time in N scale. And this has got to be a pretty complex project.

As long as they do it right, I really don't mind too much.
I kinda have a lot riding on this.. $600 plus, that is.... I really want this to be done right, and if it is, they'll sell a ton of them.

The sound in the HO version of the Challenger is mediocre at best. I hope that they modify it in N scale with a better reproduction of the sound.

That might be difficult to do given the samll size of the speakers that can be put in the tender of N scale steamers.

I agree--the Lionel Challenger's sound was incredible. The Turbine they did was impressively loud, just like the prototype!

Given how long it's been since the last Con Cor Challenger I'd say "Let's just count our Blessings Athearn even decided to do an N-scale version."

PCM, however, is another subject. 'Nuff said.

It's going to be an expensive holiday season when all these loco's are released at the same time.

    Mark:

You must need braces(suspenders) to hold up your pants with all that cool cash in your pockets...:D

I tried the suspenders on my shoulders, but they started to stoop from the weight. I now have them on the top of my head but am getting compressed vertibrae.

Only kidding. After paying for the basement renovation and purchasing lumber, foamboard and track, there will be scant enough left over for a Bachmann Plymouth switcher.

The track will definitely make you work harder..... When will the expansion take place?

Whew! It's actually a relief, because it'll allow my wallet to recover from all those IM F7's coming out in a month or so! :D :D :D

Because I have a Kato GN Empire Builder on order, I don't mind seeing the Athearn Challenger in Oct. A non sound/DCC version for $200 discount would be a nice option for the Challenger. A Greyhound with elephant ears would be nice too.
