im sure this was posted some where, i just cant find it. i just got my new challenger today(with the tsunami decoder) and i test drive it with factory settings and it works, the problem starts when i go to change the address, page mode does nothing ops mode di8dtn work since the stock address got erased and replaced some number i didn't tell it, so tried dir mode and it worked. now a new problem arises, it only with either be stopped or full speed, and all the speed nob controls is how fast it makes noise(the chugs).

any help on this would be great, also if you have a digital copy of the handbook with all the cvs that would be great, as mine decided i didn't need it so i didn't come with one

I think your best bet is to reset the decoder. With many decoders you do that by setting CV 8 to 8. I don't know about that one, but the PDF of the manual is available at Soundtraxx's website. Here's a link to the Steam Decoder manual for the Tsunami series.

Soundtraxx Tsunami decoders need a little more "boost" to be programmed. With my Digitrax Zephyr I have to do the 1K ohm resistor across the rails track to get enough "oomph" to program Soundtraxx and other sound decoders.

I agree, reset the decoder. You can set CV8 to 8 or set CV30 to 2 to reset the Tsunami. I was able to program my Challenger in Ops mode on the main with my Super Chief.

i got it programed up but it moves at a scale 20 mph and the heal light is dim.. odds are im going to return this, even before the reprogramming it was pretty slow, theres a popping crackling noise coming from the motor, it comes and goes but the engine jerks when it does it

Just to throw in some reassurance (if you can call it that).. the headlight is naturally dim on these, it's not a defect, it's just the way they come. :(

I also remember my fathers Tsunami Challenger ran naturally slow as well. But you can tune the Start/Mid/Top voltage settings to adjust that. Again, not a defect, just the way they came. Be careful though, this this may alter the chuff sync.

The crackling or popping however does sound odd and since it causes jerking I would say this is an internal mechanism defect and recommend contacting Athearn about a warranty repair for that.

And finally. WELCOME TO TRAINBOARD! :D :D :D

    Mark,
Tsunami's do not support the mid and top voltage settings, as in CV5 and CV6.
You need to set CV's209 and 210 for slow speed.
If the decoder was reset, it should go back to factory defaults- CV209 will be at 20 and CV210 at 25. Which should make the unit run faster. You can set CV2 for start voltage. You could also customize the speed tables
