I recently acquired an Athearn Big Boy with a lenz dcc controller replacing the Athearn board, but I can't get it to run on my DC track. Is there something I need to do or is the lenz board not dc friendly? Taking the seller's word for it that it is a lenz board since I have not opened the loco up. Any advice welcome.

Reprogram the decoder to default? I believe it is a dual mode decoder...

Hope you've got access to a DCC system to reset the decoder. After I read all the description on that item I just couldn't talk myself to bidding on it. Good luck getting it running.

OK, figured out the wiring and took out the decoder and connected the wires so it is now running on dc, and it runs well. Next step is to determine whether to restore to factory or just run with dc no directional lites and no sound. hmmmm.

The seller in your case had removed the factory MRC Control and sound board and replaced it with the LENZ NON Sound DCC Board. He sold the factory MRC board separately on Ebay. I would contact Athearn Service and see if I could buy the original board.

I sure WOULD NOT try to get the original MRC board. JUNK! See if you can get the updated NEW board that Athearn now installs.
