I recently acquired a set of Athearn CSX black bethgon coalporters (set #11668) for apretty good price ($30). Other than changing the trucks out to Microtrains these are pretty good cars and the paint is well done. So that makes me want to go out and acquire the other 2 five car sets that they ran in the CSX black scheme. They are sets 11669 and 11670. I know these cars came out a little while ago but has anyone seen them around lately or have the 2 sets I’m looking for that they want to part with? Thanks. I am also painting up some NP KATO passenger cars and need to find some smoothside passenger car diaphragms. KATO is sold out and I need to acquire 4-6 of them? Anyone have any spares? Thanks again.
Jeff, woo woo woo has them in Tuscan for the Broadway Limited cars. I assume they are the same just color difference. Bob.
The black CSX coalporters are hard to find since Athearn has retired them. Keep checking ebay you might get lucky. You can also get away with getting a few Atlas 90 ton CSX coal hoppers and mixing the cars when you operate them since they look almost the same and you can upgrade the Atlas coal hoppers with the Micro Train couplers also. Next year in the spring they are re-releasing a bunch of coalporters I know they are re-releasing the CSX and U.P. aluminator coalporters but unfortunately they are not re-releasing the CSX black ones. You might wanna check out they're website.
Thanks Bob. I had seen them at woo woo woo but they would have to be modified to look like the SS ones (different top). Also, in the past I have had trouble with the paint sticking to them (since they need to be black in my case). Thanks.
