Hi, I am adding a new 4x8 table to my existing N-18 Atlas layout. I need help on how to plan a good layout. Do you know of any web page site that give guidance, direction and any kind of help. Thanks to you all. Mo
Ken...the bulk of my layouts have been developed from what I've read in the many How-To books available at most hobby shops. Or go to the Kalmbach web site and check 'em out....whatever you need, someone has written a book about it. http://store.yahoo.net/kalmbachcatalog/model-railroading-books.html In my opinion, it's money very well spent. Mo: I suggest that you get a copy of "101 Trackplans for Model Railroaders". There are 4x8' trackplans in that book that you can adapt to N scale. The book was written by Linn Wescott and was published by Kalmbach Publishing. It can be found in most LHS. The Kato USA website also has trackplans that you can use with Kato Unitrack.. www.katousa.com Stay cool and run steam....
Another good book is: John Armstrongs: "Track Planning for Realistic Opperantion" My father made me read that and report on it before he let me look at "101 track plans" Sit down with pencil and paper List: what you must have what you woudl like to have Sketch out your floor space Print out lots of copies Do the main line in several differant shapes Block out the other areas Sketch lots and lots of ideas Over and over again in pencil When you have a good idea Scan it in. The problem is 4x8 is not a great shape for N. Between that, taking care of my mother and looking for work - I'm a bit tapped out. Still, I have a few ideas.
